3D Signage

Cover Styl certified installer badge

A flat logo on a wall reads as an afterthought. Raised letters cast a shadow and give a reception or shopfront real presence. It's the difference between a business that looks temporary and one that looks established.

3D lettering signage, made in-house

We cut, fabricate and paint 3D letters and logos in our North Melbourne workshop, then install them on site. We'll recommend a material based on where the sign is going, how much weather it faces and your budget.

Choosing a material

Flat-cut and built-up letters

Flat-cut letters are cut from a single sheet, so they're solid and crisp. Built-up (fabricated) letters are made with separate faces and sides, so they can be deeper, larger and lit from inside.

Flat-cut acrylic

Crisp, clean letters in any colour, or painted to match your brand. A popular choice for reception walls and indoor signs, and it works outside too. Recycled acrylic is available for projects with sustainability targets.

Aluminium

Brushed, painted or powder-coated. Tough and weather-resistant, so it suits shopfronts, building fronts and exterior walls.

Fabricated metal letters

Letters built up with returns for real depth. The choice for large building signs and premium shopfronts, and they can be illuminated.

Timber and PVC foam

Warmer, lighter-weight options for interiors, hospitality and retail fit-outs.

3D-printed letters

For shapes that can't be cut from sheet, such as rounded, sculpted or highly detailed logos.

Finishes and mounting

  • Painted in any colour, matched to your brand
  • Stand-off mounting, which holds letters off the wall to cast a shadow
  • Flush mounting, fixed straight to the wall
  • Rail mounting, for walls that can't take lots of fixings
  • Front-lit, halo-lit and side-lit letters, see illuminated signage

How it works

  1. Send us your logo and a photo of the wall, with rough measurements.
  2. Material and size advice. We recommend a material, thickness and size that will read well from where people will see it.
  3. Proof. You approve a proof showing the letters to scale on your wall. On installation day we mark out the position with full-size templates, so every letter sits exactly where it should.
  4. Manufacture and install. Fabricated, 3D and illuminated signs usually take 4 weeks or more.

Common questions

Acrylic or aluminium letters?

Acrylic gives you the widest range of colours and a crisp finish, and suits most interiors. Aluminium is tougher and better suited to exterior walls that face the weather. Our guide to flat-cut acrylic or aluminium letters goes into more detail.

How thick should 3D letters be?

It depends on the letter size and how far away people will read it. Larger signs seen from the street need more depth to hold their presence. We'll recommend a thickness when we quote.

Can 3D letters go outside?

Yes. Aluminium, fabricated metal and exterior-grade acrylic all suit outdoor signs.

Do I need a permit for 3D signage?

Exterior business signs can need a council planning permit, depending on the size, location and council. We'll tell you up front if your sign is likely to need one.

How long do 3D signs take?

Usually 4 weeks or more from approval, depending on the material and size.
